The Level Up List: Why We Aren’t Doing Resolutions This Year

New Year’s Resolutions are usually just a “To-Do” list for making yourself miserable. They are restrictive (“I will never eat bread again”), vague (“I will be happier”), or rooted in self-hatred (“I need to fix everything about myself by February 1st”). This year, we are rejecting the “Resolution”. We aren’t trying to “fix” ourselves because we aren’t broken. Instead, we are focusing on the Level Up.

Think of life like a video game. You don’t delete your character when you reach a new level; you upgrade your armor, unlock new skills, and stop wasting time on side quests that don’t move the plot forward.

New Year resolutions note being replaced by a Level Up mindset

Here is your 2025 Level Up Checklist: no scales, no calorie counting, just pure vibe shifts.

1. The Digital Purge (Curate Your Reality)

You consume content more than you consume food. If your feed makes you feel broke, ugly, or anxious, you are poisoning your own brain.

  • The Move: Go through your Following list. If an influencer makes you feel bad about your body? Unfollow. If an ex’s story ruins your mood? Mute. If a “friend” posts passive-aggressive status updates? Delete.
  • The Vibe: Your phone is your personal magazine. You are the Editor-in-Chief. Fire the writers who stress you out.

2. The “Placeholder” Friend Audit

We all have those friends we only hang out with out of habit. The ones who drain your social battery, only talk about themselves, or who you’ve simply outgrown.

  • The Move: Stop initiating. Stop saying “yes” out of guilt. Invest your limited energy into the people who actually make you feel seen and energized.
  • The Vibe: Quality over quantity. A VIP section of 3 real friends is better than general admission with 20 acquaintances.

3. Romanticizing the Mundane (Main Character Energy)

Life is mostly boring during the week. If you only wait for weekends or vacations to be happy, you are miserable 80% of the time.

  • The Move: Upgrade the small things. Buy the fancy coffee maker. Wear the matching lounge set just to watch Netflix. Play music while you do the dishes.
  • The Vibe: Stop waiting for a special occasion. You are the occasion.

4. Radical Non-Availability

You do not owe anyone an immediate text back. You do not owe your job your mental health at 8 PM.

  • The Move: Turn on “Do Not Disturb” at 9 PM, or a set time you want, and leave it on until you’ve done your morning routine. Normalize saying, “I don’t have the capacity for this right now,” without following it up with a paragraph apology.
  • The Vibe: Your access is a privilege, not a right. Gatekeep your peace.

5. Dress for the Plot

Stop saving your “good clothes” for a hypothetical event. Stop wearing the sweatpants with the hole in them because “no one will see.”

  • The Move: Dress like the person you want to be today. When you look put-together, you act put-together. It’s psychological armor.
  • The Vibe: Look in the mirror and ask, “Does this outfit look like the main character or the side character?”

6. Delusional Confidence

Imposter syndrome is out. Delusional confidence is in.

  • The Move: Apply for the job you’re only 60% qualified for. Ask for the raise. Assume people like you until they give you a reason to think otherwise.
  • The Vibe: Walk into every room like you own the building. Most people are just winging it anyway; you might as well wing it with style.

This year isn’t about becoming a different person. It’s about respecting the person you already are enough to give them a better environment to grow in.

Happy Leveling Up!
